At a time when India’s call for self-reliance in defence has never been louder, Vijayan Trishul Defence Solutions (VTDS) stands at the forefront of this mission. Founded by Sahil Luthra, a passionate entrepreneur and strategist, VTDS was born out of a vision to fill critical capability gaps in small arms and ammunition through indigenous excellence. Rooted in the strategic heart of the UP Defence Corridor and entirely self-funded, the company is building not just world-class products, but a legacy of trust, precision, and commitment to India’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies. In this conversation, Luthra shares how VTDS is shaping the future of Indian defence, one innovation at a time.
1. What inspired the founding of Vijayan Trishul Defence Solutions, and how has the vision evolved since inception?
The idea behind Vijayan Trishul Defence Solutions was born from a deep commitment to support India’s vision of self-reliance in the defence sector. With a focus on small arms and ammunition, our goal has always been to bridge the capability gap through indigenous innovation. Over time, this vision has expanded, we’re not just aiming to manufacture, we aim to become a trusted partner in India’s long-term defence preparedness.
2. How does being located in the UP Defence Corridor enhance your manufacturing capabilities and strategic advantage?
The UP Defence Corridor offers us a supportive environment to grow. It gives us access to important infrastructure, better coordination with government bodies, and opportunities to connect with other defence sector players. As we prepare to begin manufacturing, being here gives us the confidence that we’re building in the right place with the right support around us.
3. What technologies or processes set VTDS apart in the production of small arms and ammunition?
Once we begin operations, our focus will be on precision, consistency, and reliability. We plan to use advanced machining, strong quality control systems, and smart design processes to make sure our products meet the highest standards. Innovation will always be at the heart of what we do, especially in improving functionality and user experience on the field.
4. How does VTDS ensure quality and precision across its defence product portfolio?
QQuality for us is not optional. We are building our systems and processes from the ground up with quality in mind. Every product will go through detailed inspections and rigorous testing. We aim to meet not just Indian standards but global benchmarks. It’s important to us that every item leaving our facility is something we can be proud of.
5. Can you elaborate on your approach to serving India’s Armed Forces, CAPFs, and law enforcement agencies?
We believe the best way to serve is to listen. Our products will be built based on real field feedback and operational needs. We want to create equipment that actually helps our personnel on the ground perform better and safer. It’s not just about selling a product. It’s about building trust and delivering value that makes a difference.
6. How has self-funding shaped the growth and independence of your operations?
Being self-funded has made our journey more personal and more focused. It gives us the freedom to make decisions that are aligned with our values and long-term vision. It has also taught us to be efficient, clear-headed, and deeply committed to every milestone. Every step forward has meaning when it’s built through your own effort.
7. What future defence technologies or solutions is VTDS currently focused on developing beyond small arms?
We’re already looking ahead to solutions that go beyond small arms. Our future focus includes smart munitions, integrated accessories, and combat-ready systems that improve situational awareness and adaptability. We’re also exploring technologies that can support faster response and higher accuracy in real-time situations. The idea is to keep evolving and keep supporting our forces with the best possible tools.
