What or who inspired you to write Gods on Trial The Series?
Opëshum: People often ask this question, and they are often uncomfortable with my answer. But I remain wedded to the truth. Believe it or not, this entire series is my interpretation of a conversation I am honored to be having with extraterrestrial beings, known as Xżyberians. I am extremely humbled that they have selected me to tell their story.
What kind of research did you do for your book Beyond The Father, book 1 of the series?
Opëshum: As part of the scientific details, details about the war scenes, specific technologies, and aspects of planetary science— I am constantly researching these topics to ensure the details of the books are plausible. I have also spent a fair amount of time researching the structure of formal kingdoms and rank and order societies.
How has your private or professional life influenced or helped you to come up with the plots of this book?
Opëshum: I tend to live a very reclusive life, in a very remote area where there are very few people around. I find that living as a recluse affords me the opportunity to focus on writing — my greatest passion. It’s where I can focus on what the extraterrestrials are telling me.
Beyond The Father is the first of 8 books in its series and it is already being talked about a lot. What kind of pressure does it put on you as a writer as you gear up to publish the remaining seven books in the series?
Opëshum: There is so much that is going to happen in Book 2, that I am working on it all the time. But I cannot rush the process. The story evolves as it is ready. I can honestly say, however, that there are going to be many exciting details I plan to share in the upcoming books— so stay tuned! 🙂
You have so many readers worldwide and your books might be translated into Hindi and other languages soon. Do you feel the translations will do justice to your narratives?
Opëshum: I am very excited about the upcoming version of Book 1 in Hindi! I have hired an excellent translation team that has already started on the project. We plan to have the Hindi version of Beyond the Father available on POTHI by early October of this year.
Which character from your book is closest to your heart and why?
Opëshum: There are no favorites, I adore each and every character and I am so honored that they have chosen me to tell their story.
Tell us about some of your favourite writers and books.
Opëshum: Jhumpa Lahiri, Chetan Bhagat, and Russian authors Alexander Pushkin and Fyodor Dostoevsky.
Novels require a lot of research. But since you are writing fiction, how much creative liberty did you allow yourself and how did you balance writing and regular work together?
Opëshum: I balance the research I am doing with the inspiration I am getting from the Xżyberians. Since I am retired, I can spend most of my day drafting and re-drafting the chapters until I feel they are ready.
Have you started working on your next book? Can we have a sneak peek?
Opëshum: I never give sneak previews of my works in progress, but I can at least share that I am currently working on Episode 7 of Book 2 🙂
Which is that one review from India that stays with you?
Opëshum: I have gotten so many wonderful heart-felt, and gloriously written reviews from readers and bloggers in India. It’s just really hard to pick one. I adored them all!
